Another parcel!

A few days after our first mystery parcel the children spotted another parcel on top of the whiteboard; we opened it and discovered a book called 'The Naughty Bus'!

We read part of the book and found out the a little boy was given a red bus as a present. In the story the bus drives past a line of people who are queuing for him.

We wrote lists of the people who were queuing for the bus:

We had to remember to write each object on a new line.

We are excited to find out what the Naughty Bus is going to do next!

The Naughty Bus

Since the beginning of September some mysterious things have been happening in Year 1! It began with a mystery parcel being delivered; no one knew what was in the parcel or who had ordered so the children had a go at writing sensible predictions as to what the parcel could be.

We then opened the parcel and discovered that it was a little red bus! The parcel also contained some pictures; we looked at them carefully and discovered that the bus had already been exploring our classroom. Can you tell where he has been?

We drew maps of where the bus had been in our classroom and outdoor area.

We then discovered that the bus had been exploring around our school and left his tyre prints all over the walls! We used a map of the school to record the places where he had visited.

We decided that the bus was a little bit naughty to do all of this exploring without us knowing!

Stars of the week - 19th September 2014

This week Mrs Heaps, Mrs Denny and I have chosen Teagan and Kyle to be our stars of the week.
Kyle has been working very hard in phonics with Miss Smethurst and decided to carry on practising his phonics even after the session had ended. Kyle thought of different words with the 'ea' sound and recorded them in our writing area.

Teagan is our star of the week because of her all round super attitude! She is a very kind and helpful member of the class and she tries her best in everything she does!

Well done Kyle and Teagan!

Stars of the Week - 26th September 2014

This week the adults in Year 1 choose Ryan and Corey as their stars of the week.
Ryan has completed some excellent number work this week; he has been reading numbers to 50 and then placing them in the correct places on a blank number track.

Corey has been working really hard in phonics this week; he is always one of the first to suggest a word or read a sound, well done Corey!

Well done to our stars of the week!

Potato Maths and Star of the Week - 12th September 2014

As always it was a hard decision to choose two stars from a whole class of superstars but this week we have chosen Cody and KC. Cody has been following the golden rules all week and completing all of his jobs. KC asked Mrs Bond some excellent numeracy questions whilst she was working in the science garden to dig up potatoes; KC's questions inspired us to spend the next few days completing 'Potato Maths!'

We used the potatoes that we dug up to practice our counting and writing numbers and some of us even had a go at estimating how many potatoes were in the bucket. We also arranged the potatoes into size order and used a bucket balance to find the heaviest and lightest potato.

Now that we know exactly how many potatoes we dug up, we can ask Mrs Bridge to cook for the potatoes for us so that they can be served in our school lunches!

Mrs Bridge cooked the potatoes and served them as part of our roast dinner on Thursday; they were delicious!

Star of the Week!

I had such a difficult decision to choose the Stars of the week this week as all of the children in Year 1 have been fantastic! After lots of discussion with Mrs Denny and Mrs Heaps we chose Cameron and Miah.
Cameron has been very helpful at tidy up time this week and all of the adults including our visitor, Mrs Griffiths, have noticed that this week.
Miah has settled into her new class and school this week so well that I keep forgetting that she hasn't always been with us!
Well done Cameron and Miah!

Welcome to Year 1 - September 2014

Hello and welcome to Year 1! Mrs Denny, Mrs Heaps and I have really enjoyed getting to know the new Year 1 class this week!
The children have really enjoyed exploring the new classroom; especially playing in the building site role-play area and watching the real builders work in the playground!
This week we have been busy writing about ourselves and painting self-portraits; have a look at the display in our classroom and see if you can spot any familiar faces!
